In a realm where dimensions intertwined and celestial beings watched from afar, a rare love story began to take shape a love both beautiful and forbidden, defying the boundaries set by gods and fate itself.
Deep Dive: Origins
Syndra’s Story (Evy’s Mother)
In a community of elves, there existed a subrace known as Moon Elves, or Teu-tel-quessir, often called silver elves. They were one of the most common elven subraces, known for being more accepting of humans and often serving as ancestors of half-elves. Sometimes referred to as high elves or eladrin, they played a significant role in elven society. Among them was a particularly striking beauty named Syndra. She was taller than most Moon Elves, with long, straight, silvery-white hair and skin with a grayish-pale hue. Her features were sharp yet elegant, and her eyes were a captivating pale gold, which set her apart from most Moon Elves, who typically had only green or blue eyes with golden flecks. While many considered this a unique aspect of her appearance, Syndra had a secret: a marking resembling a tattoo of a full moon on her skin. Unsure of its origin and why it had appeared suddenly, she chose to keep it hidden from the world.
Like most Moon Elves, she grew up learning to wield weapons and defend herself and others in times of danger. Not only was she exceptional in combat, but she also possessed incredibly powerful and mysterious magic, which was rare among her kind, who typically had only minor magical abilities. Her magic grew even more formidable and frightening when the moon reached its peak at nightfall. Was this due to her mysterious marking? She did not know, although this was another secret she carefully guarded to avoid drawing attention. Every day, Syndra trained diligently with the goal of becoming a Bladesinger. This ancient and sacred tradition fused swordsmanship with various combat styles and unique arcane magic, creating a distinguished and powerful fighting technique.
In Moon Elf culture, she dedicated herself to this rigorous training to prepare for the day she could embark on adventures like her ancestors. Moon Elves were driven by a natural curiosity and a desire to make a positive impact, valuing individuality and believing in the power of each person to shape the world. Known for their altruistic nature, many Moon Elven adventurers became heroes, though some ventured down darker paths. Syndra had no desire to become a hero or a villain; her goal was to help as much as she could and to explore the wondrous places she had only heard about in stories. She eagerly anticipated the day when she could embark on those adventures and experience them firsthand, making them her own.
Once Syndra had grown strong enough and achieved her goal of venturing out on her own, she set off on her adventure. At the start of her journey, her family advised her to visit a renowned shrine sacred to the Moon Elves, where she could pray to the gods. As she knelt to pray, something extraordinary occurred. Instead of simply receiving a blessing, one of the gods manifested before her, their divine presence blazing with power. Beside the god stood a Celestial being, radiating an ethereal aura. She resembled a Moon Elf, marked with a half-moon symbol similar to Syndra's own full-moon mark.
The god and the Celestial being exchanged knowing glances before turning their attention to Syndra. With a voice that resonated through the heavens, the god offered her a position as a chosen warrior, tasked with maintaining the balance between realms. This role would allow her to travel across various dimensions, embarking on a journey to assess and aid them. The Celestial being, smiling gently, elaborated on the god’s words, inviting Syndra to join the Celestial order, where she would wield powers beyond her imagination, drawn from the moon. The Celestial being revealed that Syndra bore the moonlit mark, a sign of her destined path. This mark foretold her fate to become the next Celestial Moon Guardian, chosen to succeed the current guardian after her long and devoted service.
They explained that the choice was hers alone: she could continue her life as it was or embrace this extraordinary destiny. However, there was a significant condition: if Syndra accepted, she would be bound to serve the gods and remain in this role until she found a worthy successor to inherit the mantle, but only after her service was deemed sufficient by the gods.
The god then shared one final detail that Syndra needed to consider. If she accepted this offer, she would be unable to bear children, as her body would undergo a transformation, becoming something beyond the mortal realm. This change was decreed by the gods to maintain the balance of the natural order, ensuring that no Celestial being could pass on their divine essence to future generations. However, once her service was complete, Syndra would be returned to her realm to live out the rest of her days as a normal Moon Elf. Although she would retain her memories of her time as a Celestial Moon Guardian, she would be forbidden from revealing any secrets about the gods or other Celestial beings.
Syndra stood at the crossroads of fate, her heart torn between the divine opportunities laid before her. After weighing the odds, she decided to accept their offer and embark on a journey she knew she would cherish. This path promised not only countless adventures but also the chance to learn new and exciting things from other dimensions. Most importantly, it would allow her to watch over others and help them, fulfilling a purpose greater than herself.
While Syndra’s journey was initially filled with triumph and discovery, everything shifted with the arrival of a mysterious man. His sudden appearance would thrust her onto an unforeseen and treacherous path, intertwining danger and new beginnings into her Celestial life in ways neither she nor the gods had anticipated.
Takaokami’s Story (Evy’s Father)
An ice and water dragon ruled with an iron claw in a kingdom where power and ambition reign supreme. He sought a wife not out of love but for the strength she could add to their lineage. His choice was a formidable Dragon Elf, a rare and revered race of elves devoted to the worship of dragons. Equally ruthless and cunning, she was the perfect match for his ambitions. From their union came twin sons, born under a prophecy that foretold either greatness or destruction.
Takaokami, the firstborn, had scales that shimmered like sapphire ice and gold under the light, casting a chilling, otherworldly beauty against his sun-kissed tan skin. His black hair complemented his pure golden horns—a symbol of the royal lineage, adding a distinctive touch to his otherwise regal appearance. As an ice dragon, Takaokami wielded ice magic like a force of nature—cold as a raging blizzard, capable of stripping warmth from the air, and sharp as a finely honed blade that could cut through anything in its path.
Takaokami stood as a paragon of strength and royal lineage. Born into a world where his future seemed predestined, he was molded from a young age to rule with the same iron claw as his father. Takaokami's upbringing was marked by relentless training and the constant pressure to live up to his father's expectations. His power was evident from a young age, his ice magic unmatched in its ferocity. The discovery of his blood-bending ability, a lost and feared art, only cemented his status as the heir. But with this power came a heavy burden. The crown he was destined to wear began to feel more like a shackle, chaining him to a path he never chose.
Kuraokami, the younger brother, bore scales of deep, shadowy blue that shimmered with a light turquoise hue as he moved, contrasting with his sun-kissed tan skin. His hair was an icy blue, complemented by pure golden horns, mirroring those of his brother and father. As a powerful water dragon, Kuraokami had the ability to bend water to his will and was equally powerful as his brother, but he was deeply frustrated by his lack of the rare blood-bending ability that Takaokami possessed. Despite blood containing water, Kuraokami felt this unique gift should have been his by right.
The tension within the family grew as Kuraokami harboured jealousy and resentment. Their mother, ever the strategist, saw an opportunity to gain more power for herself through Kuraokami's ambition and jealousy and covertly fed his mind to desire the throne. The brothers' relationship, once marked by brotherhood, became strained, with Kuraokami's frustrations turning into deep-seated hatred. Their father's favouritism towards Takaokami only fueled the flames, driving Kuraokami further into their mother's manipulative embrace.
As Takaokami grew older, the weight of his destiny became unbearable. The throne, once a symbol of his future, now felt like a life of chained shackles. The indifference of his mother and the hostility from his brother only deepened his sense of alienation within the walls he once called home. Despite his immense power and the expectations placed upon him, Takaokami felt increasingly uneasy, sensing that the kingdom, his family, and even the throne were not truly his. Uncertain about what to do, it was Aurelion, his teacher and familiar, who proposed leaving this burdensome kingdom behind.
Aurelion had been by Takaokami’s side since birth. Summoned by the Dragon King to match Takaokami’s immense power, Aurelion was a formidable spirit dragon, his form a blend of misty ice and dark, crystalline structures that shimmered with gold and blue hues. Though meant to be a guardian and mentor, Aurelion saw Takaokami as more than a prince—he saw him as a friend and a loyal companion.
From a young age, Aurelion guided Takaokami in mastering his ice magic and blood-bending, teaching him to wield his power with precision and control. Beyond lessons, Aurelion provided the support and care that Takaokami's family often lacked. He understood the burden of expectations and offered comfort when Takaokami felt isolated.
Takaokami pondered Aurelion’s suggestion. After careful consideration, he chose to leave, and Aurelion, believing it was the right decision, supported him wholeheartedly. As Takaokami stepped away from the kingdom, the ground trembled, and a thunderous roar echoed from his homeland, a clear sign of his father’s displeasure. Yet, with a smirk and a resolve to carve his future, Takaokami turned his back on the past, ready to face whatever lay beyond the kingdom’s borders. In leaving, he sought not just freedom from the crown but also the chance to discover who he was and what he wanted, beyond the expectations of his father and the ambitions of his family. The path ahead was uncertain, but for the first time, it was his own.
The Story of Syndra and Takaokami
Part 1: The Fateful Meeting
The moon hung high in the night sky, casting its silvery light over an ancient, dense forest. Leaves rustled softly as Syndra moved through the trees, her sharp eyes scanning the surroundings. She had been tracking a strange energy signature for days. Rumors of demons terrorizing nearby villages had reached her ears, and as a Celestial Moon Guardian, it was her duty to investigate. Though she had no idea what lay ahead, she was ready for whatever came her way.
As she ventured deeper into the forest, a sudden movement caught her eye. The figure she had been following was now moving swiftly through the trees. Syndra’s heart raced. She couldn’t make out who or what it was, but her instincts told her this could be the source of the disturbances, and they knew she was on their trail. With quiet determination, Syndra pursued the figure, her steps as silent and swift as a whisper.
Meanwhile, Takaokami, cloaked in a large coat and hood, did his best to ignore the bizarre presence shadowing him through the woods. Ever since leaving his kingdom, he had encountered all manner of strange beings: spirits, monsters, demons, and, most annoyingly, overly curious adventurers. But this one felt different. He couldn’t shake the feeling that someone with a powerful energy, unfamiliar to him, was tailing him.
With a sigh, Takaokami halted, his breath visible in the cold air. "Alright," he called out, his voice echoing through the trees. "Whoever you are, show yourself. I don't have time for games."
Perched on a high branch, Syndra narrowed her eyes. So he knew she was there. Not surprising, given the sheer amount of power she sensed radiating from him. With a graceful leap, she landed in a clearing, her silvery-white hair shimmering in the moonlight. Straightening up, her pale golden eyes locked onto the figure before her — a tall, imposing man with scales that glimmered like sapphire ice and gold, golden horns that glowed softly, and a long, scaled tail that flicked in annoyance.
Takaokami raised an eyebrow at the sight of her. "A moon elf?" he muttered, slightly intrigued. "What do you want?"
"You're the one who asked me to show myself," Syndra retorted, crossing her arms. "I’ve been following your trail for days, trying to figure out who or what you are. Now that I see you up close, I’m still clueless.”
Takaokami smirked, a flicker of amusement in his icy turquoise eyes. "And what makes you think you can just approach someone like me and ask questions? You must have a death wish, elf."
Syndra rolled her eyes. "Please, I’ve faced more dangerous things than you in my sleep. Besides, if I had a death wish, I wouldn’t have waited this long to introduce myself."
Takaokami chuckled, his breath misting in the cool night air. "You’ve got guts, I’ll give you that."
Before Syndra could respond, Takaokami flicked his wrist, sending a sharp, icy wind spiraling toward her. Syndra’s reflexes kicked in, and she swiftly conjured a barrier of shimmering gold and white energy, deflecting the attack. The wind howled as it met her shield, but she stood her ground, eyes narrowing.
"Is that how you greet people?" Syndra taunted, lowering her shield. "No wonder you’re alone."
Takaokami’s smirk widened. "Oh? But I’m not alone."
Before Syndra could speak, a misty figure darted through the trees with blinding speed, its razor-sharp black claws grazing her shoulder. She winced in pain and looked at what had attacked her. Floating by Takaokami’s side was a spirit dragon made of misty ice and dark crystals.
Syndra was in awe, but before she could speak, Takaokami drew his sword, the blade glistening with frost. Syndra responded in kind, unsheathing her own weapon — a curved blade that hummed with magical energy. The two warriors circled each other, sizing up their opponent with keen eyes.
"You’ve got some nerve challenging me," Syndra said, her tone laced with confidence. "I’ve heard reports of demons in this area, and ever since you showed up, they’ve been attacking innocent people. I won’t stand for it!”
Aurelion, hovering nearby, let out a soft chuckle, the sound like ice crystals tinkling in the wind. "It seems you’ve been mistaken for a villain, Takaokami."
Takaokami, distracted by the sight of the stunning elf before him, didn’t register Aurelion’s words. "You talk too much," he shot back, lunging forward with blinding speed.
Their swords clashed, sparks flying as metal met ice. Syndra’s agility allowed her to dodge Takaokami’s heavy strikes, countering with swift, precise movements. She spun gracefully, her blade slicing through the air, but Takaokami blocked each strike with ease. The force of their blows sent shockwaves through the ground, the trees swaying as their duel intensified.
"Not bad," Takaokami admitted, his breath steady. "But you’re still too slow."
"We’ll see about that," Syndra replied, a mischievous glint in her eye.
With a burst of magic, Syndra summoned a series of glowing phases of moons that surrounded her like a protective shield. Takaokami paused, momentarily taken aback by the sudden shift in her tactics. Seizing the opportunity, Syndra launched the sharpest moons at him, each one homing in on his position with deadly accuracy.
Takaokami quickly raised a wall of ice to block the incoming projectiles, but the crescent moons sliced through the barrier with ease. He barely managed to dodge, his eyes widening in surprise as one of the moons nicked his shoulder, leaving a thin trail of blood.
"Alright, maybe you’re not just talking," Takaokami conceded, a hint of respect in his voice. "But I’m not done yet."
Before Syndra could press her advantage, Takaokami slammed his fist into the ground, causing the earth beneath them to crack and splinter. With a chilling roar, pillars of ice erupted from the ground, forcing Syndra to leap and dodge as the landscape around them transformed into a frozen battlefield.
As she landed, Syndra grinned, adrenaline surging through her veins. This was exactly the kind of challenge she had been seeking! She darted between the ice pillars, her movements fluid and graceful, closing the distance between them.
But just as she was about to strike, Takaokami vanished in a swirl of mist, reappearing behind her. Syndra barely had time to react as he brought his sword down, the blade aimed directly at her back. But instead of feeling the cold, sharp ice, she felt something else — an overwhelming surge of power.
Without thinking, Syndra’s body reacted on its own. The full moon mark on her skin glowed brightly, and a wave of lunar energy exploded from her, sending Takaokami flying back. He crashed into a tree, the impact shattering the ice around them.
For a moment, there was silence. Syndra, panting and wide-eyed, stared at the glowing mark on her arm. Takaokami groaned as he got back to his feet, rubbing his head.
"Okay… that was unexpected," he muttered, shaking off the daze.
Syndra blinked, still processing what had just happened. "Yeah, tell me about it. No one has gotten that close to me before."
They stood there for a moment, both of them breathing heavily, the tension in the air dissipating. Finally, Takaokami broke the silence with a chuckle.
"You know, for someone who just tried to kill me, you’re not half bad," he said, making his sword disappear into mist.
Syndra snorted, crossing her arms with a hint of a smirk. "You’re not too shabby yourself, for a guy with a superiority complex."
"How about we call it a draw? I’m not really in the mood to freeze any more elves tonight."
Syndra rolled her eyes. “Are you behind the demon attacks? Because if you are, this fight is far from over.”
"Demon attacks?" Takaokami echoed, lowering his guard slightly. "I have nothing to do with that. I’m just an adventurer who left drama, not started it."
A moment of silence followed as Syndra processed his words, her fierce expression softening into one of embarrassment. “Wait… really?”
“Yes, really,” Takaokami replied, tilting his head.
"Oh… well, this is awkward," Syndra muttered, wrapping her arms around herself.
Aurelion, now fully amused, circled the two, his misty form shimmering in the moonlight. "Perhaps we can all agree this was a simple misunderstanding."
Syndra’s sheepish smile tugged at her lips. "I might have jumped to conclusions. You just looked… ominous."
Takaokami raised an eyebrow, a smirk forming on his face. "Ominous? Can’t a guy enjoy the night air and the moonlight while he travels through these forests?"
Syndra laughed, the tension easing from her posture.
"Next time, maybe ask before attacking?" Takaokami suggested, wiping off the dirt from his clothes.
Syndra grinned, offering him a hand. "Deal. Let’s start over. I’m Syndra."
"Takaokami," he replied, shaking her hand firmly. "And this troublemaker here is Aurelion."
Aurelion let out a soft rumble, the sound echoing like a distant storm.
“Nice to meet you both,” Syndra said, her golden eyes sparkling with curiosity. “So… where are you headed next?”
Takaokami shrugged. "Who knows? Wherever the wind takes us."
Syndra chuckled. "Sounds like a plan. Mind if I join you? The village I was talking about is in that direction, and it seems we both could use the company."
Takaokami glanced at Aurelion, who gave a nod of approval. "Sure. Just try not to stab me in the back again, okay?"
Syndra grinned. "No promises."
As the group moved deeper into the forest, Syndra spun around, walking backward to keep Takaokami and Aurelion in her sights. “Hey! How about lending a hand with this demon problem?” Syndra asked.
Takaokami shot her a sideways glance, his voice as cold as the night air. “Not my problem, so no.”
Syndra’s eyes narrowed, a spark of annoyance flashing in them. But before she could fire back, Aurelion’s voice cut through the tension, smooth and persuasive. “Takaokami, consider this a chance to break the monotony. Besides, I can tell Syndra has caught your interest. It might be refreshing to do something other than endless wandering.”
Syndra’s smirk widened, and she tilted her head with playful curiosity. “Caught your interest, huh? Aurelion, how about you share a bit more of what’s on his mind? Since he’s not exactly forthcoming.”
Takaokami groaned, clearly fighting the pull of curiosity, but he couldn’t help the flicker of intrigue in his eyes. “For the love of —… Fine! I’ll help. But don’t expect any miracles,” he muttered, though the reluctance in his voice was tinged with something more.
Syndra’s grin only grew. “Oh, I wouldn’t dare.”
As they continued forward, the moonlight enveloped them in a gentle glow, marking the beginning of an unlikely alliance between a Celestial Moon Guardian and a wandering dragon prince. This new chapter would intertwine their fates, setting the stage for a story that would reshape their lives forever.
Part 2: Love in Playful Banter
After their encounter in the ancient forest, Syndra, Takaokami, and Aurelion continued their journey together. However, their adventure quickly transformed into something far more significant—a journey of self-discovery, friendship, and, eventually, love.
Their dynamic was a blend of mutual respect and playful banter from the start. Syndra often teased Takaokami about his brooding nature and serious demeanour, while Takaokami couldn’t resist making dry comments about Syndra’s impulsiveness. Aurelion, the ever-watchful spirit dragon, would sometimes chime in with his witty remarks, keeping the atmosphere light even in the face of danger.
One evening, as they made camp by a crystal-clear lake, Syndra decided to share a bit about herself. The firelight danced in her golden eyes as she spoke of her training as a Celestial Moon Guardian, the trials she faced, and the challenges that shaped her into who she was. Takaokami listened intently, occasionally nodding in understanding. There was something about her story that resonated with him, though he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
“You must’ve worked hard to get where you are,” Takaokami said quietly, his usual stoic expression softening.
Syndra nodded, her voice filled with quiet pride. “It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. Every challenge taught me something valuable.”
Takaokami hesitated for a moment before speaking. “I know what that’s like. The path we choose isn’t always easy, but it shapes us.”
Syndra looked at him, surprised by the sincerity in his tone. It was one of the rare moments when Takaokami revealed a glimpse of himself. He also shared a bit of his past, and she felt a deeper connection forming between them.
As the years passed, their bond grew stronger. They faced countless challenges—demon invasions, treacherous landscapes, and even a few narrow escapes from ancient traps. Companions came and went during their journeys, creating more fun memories. Through it all, they relied on each other, their trust unwavering. But it wasn’t just the battles that brought them closer; it was the quiet moments in between, the shared laughter, the teasing, and the mutual respect that deepened their relationship.
One such moment occurred when they found themselves in a bustling city, helping the local guards deal with a mischievous band of rogue spirits. After a long day of chasing down the troublemakers, Syndra suggested they unwind at a local tavern.
“Takaokami, I bet you can’t handle your drink,” she teased, a playful glint in her eye.
Takaokami raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. “Oh? Is that a challenge?”
Aurelion, hovering nearby, let out a low, rumbling chuckle. “Careful, Syndra. He may surprise you.”
“Challenge accepted!” Syndra declared, already ordering drinks.
Several rounds later, it became clear that Takaokami wasn’t as immune to alcohol as he’d like to believe. His normally composed demeanour gave way to a more relaxed and talkative version of himself, much to Syndra’s amusement.
“You know… you’re not half bad,” Takaokami slurred, leaning on the table with a lopsided grin. “For an impulsive, stubborn… beautiful moon elf.”
Syndra blushed and burst into laughter, unable to keep a straight face. “And you’re not half bad yourself, for a brooding, serious, and handsome dragon prince who just can’t hold his liquor.”
Aurelion, who had been silently observing, shook his misty head in amusement.
The next morning, Takaokami woke up with a pounding headache and a very smug-looking Syndra grinning down at him. “Morning, sunshine. How’s the head?”
Takaokami groaned, shielding his eyes from the bright sunlight. “Never again.”
"Oh, come on, it was fun! Besides, I finally cracked that icy shell of yours. Who knew you had such a chatty side? And it only takes one jug of beer."
Takaokami couldn’t help but chuckle, despite the pain. "That’s never happening again."
As time went by, their playful banter became more frequent, and their interactions took on a new, affectionate tone. It was clear to both that their feelings were growing deeper, but neither had quite put it into words.
One calm evening, under the full moon’s glow, they found themselves sitting by a small campfire. The flickering flames cast a warm light, contrasting with the cool night air.
“So, Takaokami,” Syndra said with a teasing lilt in her voice, “have you ever noticed how the moon looks like it’s smirking at us tonight?”
Takaokami chuckled, “I think it’s just enjoying the show.”
Without missing a beat, Syndra tilted her head, her golden eyes twinkling mischievously. “Well, if the moon’s got a front-row seat, I guess I should make it a memorable one.”
Before Takaokami could respond, Syndra leaned in and kissed him, her lips brushing against his in a playful, unexpected gesture. The kiss was light and full of laughter, her way of saying what words couldn’t quite capture. As they pulled apart, the moonlight, casting a soft glow, twinkled with excitement over this moment.
Takaokami softly chuckled and smiled sweetly, pulling her closer. “You’re the most impulsive, reckless, bravest… and incredible person I’ve ever known.”
Syndra laughed and gave Takaokami a playful punch on the arm. “Alright there, mister, don’t overdo it with the compliments.”
Aurelion, watching from a distance, let out a contented sigh. “It’s about time,” he muttered to himself, amused by how long it had taken them to admit their feelings.
From that night on, their relationship blossomed into something more than just friendship. They continued to adventure together, their bond growing stronger with each passing day. They still teased and challenged each other, but now there was a deeper understanding, a love forged through trials, laughter, and shared moments.
And so, under the light of the moon, they both cherished, Syndra and Takaokami found an unexpected love that would endure for a lifetime, bound by the magic of the world they had explored together.
Part 3: Tragedy
In a year after Syndra and Takaokami found comfort in each other, they cherished every moment together, despite the uncertainties surrounding their relationship. When Syndra became pregnant, it was both a miracle and a cause for concern. As a Celestial Moon Guardian, she was not supposed to bear children. This unexpected pregnancy filled them with both joy and fear, as they knew the risks were unknown.
Determined to protect their child, Takaokami and Syndra sought refuge deep within a hidden, mystical forest. They discovered a secluded sanctuary, a small, secret area where the walls were formed from solid, white ice that shimmered like crystal under the moonlight. The trees and plants were vibrant, their leaves and petals glowing with an ethereal light, adding to the sanctuary's magical aura. It was here, in this beautiful yet isolated haven, that their daughter, was born.
But their happiness was short-lived. The ancient lore of the Celestial beings revealed a cruel truth: if a Celestial being gave birth, they would die, and their power would pass into the child, making the newborn far more potent, with abilities unknown even to the gods. Syndra's death was inevitable, and as she held her newborn daughter for the first and last time, she whispered the name "Evylous," the name she had always dreamed of giving her child.
Takaokami held Syndra as her life was slowly slipping away. As Syndra lay in Takaokami’s arms, cradling their newborn daughter, she gazed up at him with a mixture of love and sadness. “Taka,” she whispered, her voice growing weaker with each breath, “promise me… promise me you’ll protect her.”
Takaokami tightened his grip on her, his heart breaking. “I swear it, Syndra. I’ll protect Evylous with my life.”
A delicate smile graced Syndra’s lips, her eyes glistening with tears. “I knew you would… She’s our miracle”
Takaokami nodded, his voice choked with emotion. “Evylous… It’s perfect. She’s perfect.”
Syndra’s hand rested gently on the baby’s chest. “I’ll always be with her. In her heart… in her soul… I’ll be there.”
Takaokami wept openly as he held her, his grief mingling with the chill of the sanctuary. “We may not say it often, but… I love you, Syndra. Always.”
“I love you too, Taka,” she murmured, With a final, faint chuckle, Syndra’s playful banter shone through even as her strength waned. “Whimpering does not suit your brutish nature.” She reached up to wipe his tears, her playful words lingering in the cold air before her eyes fluttered shut, her final breath merging with the tranquil stillness of their sanctuary.
Takaokami held Syndra’s hand and her body as her life slipped away, her essence merging with Evylous, making their daughter a being of unimaginable potential. He wept for his lost love, but with a heart full of sorrow and resolve, he vowed to protect their child with every fibre of his being.
A Mother's Betrayal: Power and Deception -
Meanwhile, without Takaokami’s knowledge, his mother once a Celestial Guardian herself had discovered their secret. She had long since turned from her divine duties, consumed by her desire for power and control. Recognizing the significance of Evylous's birth, she manipulated the gods, convincing them that this miracle child was a harbinger of destruction, an abomination. The gods, unsure of Evylous's true nature and the potential threat she posed, decided that the child must be taken.
Takaokami’s younger brother Kuraokami, fueled by jealousy and ambition, was easily manipulated by their mother. She whispered lies into his ear, claiming that Takaokami planned to return to the kingdom to claim the throne for his daughter, ensuring that she would one day rule. This filled the Kuraokami with a burning desire to eliminate both Takaokami and Evylous, believing it was the only way to secure his place as the rightful heir.
The Final Duel -
Guided by their mother, Kuraokami discovered the hidden sanctuary where Takaokami and Evylous resided. The gods, swayed by the mother’s deceit, sent their Celestial Sentinels to retrieve the child. As the enemies closed in, Takaokami knew he had no choice but to confront his brother. He could not allow them to take Evylous or let her fall into the wrong hands.
The duel between the brothers was fierce, a clash of ice and blood as their powers collided in the frozen sanctuary. As Takaokami faced his brother their eyes locked in a battle of wills as well as strength. “You don’t have to do this,” Takaokami said, his voice steady despite the storm of emotions within him.
“Ooh but I do brother,” the Kuraokami spat, his voice laced with bitterness. “You’ve always had everything, now you want to take the throne and give it to a child? I won’t let you!”
“I don’t want the throne!” Takaokami retorted, his eyes blazing with frustration. “I only want to protect my daughter. She’s innocent in all of this.”
“Innocent?” Kuraokami sneered. “She’s an abomination, a threat to the gods themselves. You’ve blinded yourself with love.”
“The only abomination I see is you” Takaokami’s voice rose with anger.
The duel erupted in a flurry of ice and water, the sanctuary shaking under the force of their battle. Aurelion, fighting beside Takaokami, roared as he tore through the Celestial Sentinels, his voice echoing through the icy walls.
As the brothers clashed one final time, Takaokami struck down his brother with a powerful blow, leaving him gasping on the frozen ground. “It didn’t have to end like this,” Takaokami said, his voice heavy with sorrow.
However, the victory came at a high cost, a shout from Aurelion reached his ears. “Takaokami! The guards they’re getting to Evylous!” The Celestial Sentinels, relentless in their pursuit, had almost reached Evylous, threatening to tear her from the life Takaokami had fought so hard to protect.
Takaokami’s heart sank as he turned to see the Celestial Sentinels closing in on his daughter. With a cry of despair, he screamed “Evylous!”
Before Takaokami could reach her, a sudden, searing pain shot through his chest. He looked down to see Kuraokami's poison-tipped blade buried deep in his flesh, the opportunity seized when his attention faltered. "You should always keep your focus on your opponent, brother," Kuraokami whispered with a wide, satisfied smile.
As he fell to his knees, his vision blurred, as he lay dying from his wound, Takaokami used the last of his strength to scream a command to Aurelion: “Aurelion! GO! Protect Evylous... with everything you have... take her far away...”
Aurelion, his eyes filled with grief, hesitated for a moment before bowing his head in acknowledgment. “I swear it, my friend. I’ll protect her with my life.”
With a roar of anguish, Aurelion obeyed, breaking through the remaining sentinels with a ferocity unmatched. As Takaokami’s vision faded, he saw his beloved daughter being carried away by his teacher and friend, her cries echoing through the sanctuary as she was taken to safety. His heart broke as he watched the only remnant of his love being whisked away, knowing he would never see her again.
“I’m sorry, Syndra… I couldn’t stay with her,” he whispered, his voice barely audible as the world faded around him.
Aurelion and Evylous -
As Aurelion carried Evylous far from the battlefield, Evylous couldn’t stop crying. Aurelion’s heart ached to know that she would never meet her parents who dearly loved her. “You must be strong, little one. We have a long journey ahead,” he whispered.
With those words, Aurelion continued to move from place to place, always keeping Evylous one step ahead of those who sought her. As the years passed, he fulfilled his promise, teaching her everything he knew, watching as she grew into a being of immense strength and resilience. In her, he saw the legacy of the two he had loved and lost, and he knew that no matter what the gods or anyone else believed, Evylous was destined for something far greater than they could ever imagine.
Evylous
Twenty-four years after the forbidden love of Syndra, the Celestial Moon Guardian, and Takaokami, the ice dragon prince, their daughter, Evylous, stands on the edge of a new beginning. A woman born from a union that defied the gods, she is hunted across realms by forces determined to erase her existence.
Evylous strides through the bustling streets of Eldoria, her powerful, long, toned legs moving beneath the cover of a hooded cloak. Her long, wavy hair, white with glowing turquoise, catches the moonlight, framing her face with a sharp, fierce beauty. Her pale turquoise eyes, with golden crescent moon pupils, dart around, constantly assessing her surroundings. Her skin, a sun-kissed hue dusted with white and gold scales, glows faintly in the darkness. Two horns rise from her head, one radiant gold, the other a gleaming crystal, a reminder of past battles. A white and gold-scaled tail flicks behind her, moving with each step.
Inside a rundown tavern bathroom, she pauses in front of a cracked mirror, examining her reflection. Her gaze lingers on the crystal horn she crafted, replacing the one she lost. She tilts her head, half-smiling at her reflection.
“Evylous!” A familiar voice calls from the hallway, urgent but controlled.
“In here, Aurelion!” she replies, her tone casual.
Aurelion enters, shifting from his smaller, white misty dragon form into a larger, more imposing shape. His dark crystalline body shimmers faintly in the dim light, his eyes filled with concern. “Enjoying your beauty routine?” he teases.
Evylous chuckles. “Figured if they’re going to hunt me down, I might as well give them something nice to look at.”
Aurelion grins, but his expression quickly turns serious. “We can’t stay here. The longer we wait, the more likely someone will notice. You know what that means.”
Evylous shrugs, a sly smile on her lips. “Oh, come on, Aurelion. A little excitement never hurt anyone, right?”
He shakes his head. “Evylous, I know you love a challenge, but there are limits.”
She sighs, pushing past him and stepping into the cool night air. Aurelion, back in his smaller form, sits on Evylous's shoulder, trying not to draw too much attention. The streets are filled with low murmurs, her elf ears picking up conversations.
"They say the attacks are getting worse," one whispered, his voice tinged with fear.
"The gods must be angry... but why? We don't know," another replied, shaking her head. "Even the sentinels, they’re becoming more violent, as if they’re losing control."
"And it’s not just them," a third chimed in. "Demons, monsters—they’re everywhere now, like the world’s gone mad."
Evylous tightens her jaw and clenches her fists, trying to stay composed and ignore the gossip around her. Sensing her tension, Aurelion, perched on her shoulder, nuzzles against her neck in a comforting gesture.
As they move, Evylous senses something darker moving just out of sight. She feels a familiar chill creeping into the air. She knows what it means: monsters. Again. She quickens her pace, leaving the city and entering an open field, her senses sharpening even more.
“How flattering,” she mutters. “If you’re trying to get with me, stalking isn’t exactly the best approach,” she teases.
From the shadows, a group of monsters emerges, their eyes glowing with malice. Aurelion shifts beside her, expanding into his full dragon form, his misty ice and dark crystalline body shimmering in the moonlight. He snarls at them, his sharp black crystal teeth freezing the ground with black ice around him.
Evylous raises an eyebrow. “Always have to make an entrance, don’t you?”
Aurelion grins. “Like you said earlier, a little excitement never hurt anyone, right?”
She draws her dual-bladed weapon, resembling a scythe, each ice blade humming with energy. “Let’s make this quick. I’ve got better things to do tonight.”
With a burst of speed, she launches herself forward, her boots propelling her like a blur through the dark. She lands with a forceful stomp, sending a shockwave through the ground that knocks the monsters off balance. In one fluid motion, she fires a barrage of ice bullets from her dual-bladed weapon, freezing her enemies in place. She weaves through the chaos, her blades slicing through the air with lethal precision.
A larger monster lunges at her, but she disappears and reappears above it, landing lightly on its shoulders, her thighs between its head. The monster’s body jerks in surprise, its clawed hands reaching up to grasp at her legs. Evylous, with a laugh, her lips curved into a smirk, purrs softly. “You can look, but you can't touch,” she mutters, her voice dripping with amusement and mockery. She freezes its head and shatters it with a twist, flipping off and landing smoothly, her tail snapping out like a whip.
Without missing a beat, she flips into a handstand, firing another volley of ice bullets from her guns, ‘Moonlight and Eclipse,’ which are attached to her boots. The demons crumble under her relentless attack. She pivots and delivers a crushing high kick to another demon’s skull, then summons glowing crystal moons, launching them at the remaining foes. The explosions send them scattering into dust.
As the last demon tries to flee, she extends her hand, tapping into her blood-bending abilities. She forms a crimson whip from the blood of the fallen, snapping it around the monster’s neck and dragging it back. The creature gasps, “mixed abomination…”
Evylous’s expression hardens, her eyes glowing red. “What did you just say?” she growls.
Aurelion lands beside her, his voice calm. “Evylous, you’re letting it take over again.”
She narrows her eyes. “And what, Aurelion? Should I ask if they’d like to have coffee with an abomination next time?”
Aurelion, with concern and plea in his eyes, says, “Evylous... Stop.”
Evylous's expression softens, and her eyes return to normal. With a deep breath, she loosens the blood sling, letting the monster’s lifeless body slump to the ground.
Aurelion meets her gaze steadily, his expression unwavering. “You know they won’t stop coming, Evylous. Not until they’ve captured you or killed you. That’s why we keep moving, why we don’t stay in one place too long.”
Evylous rolls her eyes, letting out a frustrated sigh. “Yeah, yeah, I get it. You keep repeating yourself. I’ve got the whole ‘run-and-hide’ routine down to an art form by now. It’s like a never-ending game of tag, except I’m always ‘it.’”
Aurelion frowns. “You think I like this? Keeping you on the move, always looking over your shoulder?”
She shakes her head, a hint of a smile tugging at her lips despite her exhaustion. “I know you’re just trying to keep me safe, Aurelion. But sometimes it feels like all I’m doing is surviving. And honestly? I’m getting real tired of pretending that running away is a life plan.”
Aurelion’s voice softens, though his eyes remain serious. “I’m just trying to keep you alive, Evylous.”
Before Evylous can reply, they hear the thunderous approach of sentinels in the distance, their metallic forms gleaming under the moon. “Not now… not like this,” Evylous mutters, quickly conjuring a portal of shimmering ice and gold. "Come on," she urges. They swiftly go through just as the sentinels close in, their weapons poised for attack.
On the other side, they find themselves in a breathtaking landscape, a realm bathed in ice and moonlight. Towering white stone and crystalline structures rise from the ground, reflecting the glow of a massive silver-golden moon that dominates the sky. The air is surprisingly mild, and the ground is covered with green grass, vibrant plants, and tall trees, all interwoven with patches of snow and glistening ice that crackle with energy.
Evylous takes a deep breath, the crisp air filling her lungs. She looks around, eyes wide with wonder. “This… this feels different, yet so familiar,” she says, her voice quieter, more contemplative.
Aurelion floats beside her, his eyes wide with surprise. “This place… it can’t be,” he murmurs, almost to himself.
Evylous senses his awe and follows him as he moves deeper into the landscape. They reach a scarred, uneven area, where the ground is cracked, and trees lie broken and charred.
Aurelion’s voice is heavy with emotion. “This is where it happened… your birth… Syndra… Takaokami…”
Evylous nods, feeling a deep connection to the place. “This is where they tried to keep me safe, right?” she says softly, understanding.
Aurelion continues, his tone soft. “They chose this place for its magic, its link to the moon and elements… a sanctuary they believed could hide you from all the threats.”
Evylous looks around, sensing the traces of magic still lingering in the air. “They thought it could protect me,” she says quietly, almost to herself. Then, with a firmer voice, she adds, “Maybe it still can”
She takes a deep breath, her resolve hardening. "Then we reclaim it. We rebuild. We make it a place of our own." Evylous glances around, searching for an appropriate name. Her eyes drift upward to the moon, its light casting a soft glow on the once frost-covered walls of the sanctuary. "Moonlit Frost," she murmurs. "A Celestial Ice Court where we can finally stop running."
Aurelion watches Evylous as she paces around the ruins, her eyes scanning the landscape with a mix of longing and resolve.
“Aurelion, I’ve always felt lost,” she begins, her voice quiet but firm. “I don’t know where I belong or who I am. We’ve been running since the day I was born, and I want it to stop.” She pauses, taking a deep breath. “I may not have known my parents, and sometimes I don’t know how to feel about that. But standing here… I feel something—a connection, a sense of love. And I like that feeling.”
Her expression grows more determined. “I’m done running, Aurelion. I want to live, to see the worlds my mother traveled, to end this hunt by the gods, and to stop these attacks. I want answers about who I am. I want to create my own path, I have to face them”
Aurelion floats closer, a smile spreading across his face, filled with admiration. “Your parents would be proud, Evylous. And I’ll be there with you, every step of the way, as you carve out your own path.”
Evylous’s lips curl into a soft smile, even as tears brim in her eyes. "I knew you’d never leave, you old lizard."
Aurelion huffs in mock offence, “Old lizard, huh!? Well, I take back what I said; maybe I should start planning my retirement FINALLY!”
They both laugh, their spirits lifting. Evylous looks around at the crystalline realm. “Moonlit Frost is a place to call home. A place where others like us can find refuge.”
Aurelion smirks. "But no coffee until we build a proper toilet!"
They laugh together, the tension melting away. But as Evylous casts a glance back to where the portal had been, her smile fades, her expression turning serious. "There’s still unfinished business to take care of before we can start building,” she says, her voice steady and determined.
Reopening the portal to the fields of Eldoria, Evylous and Aurelion step back through, returning to the place where the sentinels wait. Aurelion expands into his massive, misty form, his dark crystalline body shimmering under the moonlight, ready for battle.
Evylous grins, her eyes sparkling with excitement, a new fire burning within her. She summons her celestial wings, large and luminous, their edges glowing in the light of the crescent moon above. "Come on boys—let's dance!" she calls out with a playful, confident edge, her voice echoing across the field.
As the sentinels advance, they brace themselves, prepared for whatever fate has in store. Together, they stand, ready to face the fight ahead, carving out their new story against the backdrop of the night.
